Cholera is a serious gut disease. It spreads when people swallow food or water that carries the . The body loses water very fast through sickness and watery stool, and without clean water and care a person can die. It is not “a bad stomach” in the ordinary sense; it comes in outbreaks, often after floods or when drinking water is dirty. You will meet the word in news, history, and health class, not in daily chat. Though actually, the name is older than our modern idea of : Latin and Greek used a related word for a bilious illness, and English later kept cholera for this one disease.
