Cheshire is a county in northwest England. It sits between Liverpool and North Wales, and the old city of Chester is its heart. On a map it is just a place; in English life you meet the name in a few famous corners. Cheshire cheese is a pale cheese from there. And in Alice in Wonderland there is the Cheshire Cat — the cat that grins and slowly disappears, leaving only the smile. People still say someone is “grinning like a Cheshire cat” when the smile is very wide.
The name is simply “the shire (the district) of Chester.” Cheshire is the wider county; Chester is the city inside it. mix those two, and that is very easy to do.
組成Inherited from Middle English Cheschire, a late form of Chestreschire, from Old English Ċeastersċīr: Ceaster (“Chester”) + scīr (“district, shire”).
