You can hold one picture for the whole word: the exact middle point of something — the dot in the middle of a circle. Everything radiates from that dot: a building or town that acts as the middle of activity, the middle of people's attention, the middle ground in , the player in the middle of the field, and the verb 'to put something at the middle / make it the focus'.
