    Brutalist describes those same large, plain concrete buildings: a brutalist block, a brutalist car park, a brutalist university. You can also call a person a brutalist if they design in that style. The pieces are brutal + -ist, so again the word sits next to “cruel,” but in architecture it is about the raw-concrete look, not about a cruel person. If you want the word for cruel behaviour, use brutal or brutish, not brutalist.
