Branding is the work a company does when it gives a whole group of products the same name, the same look, and often the same story, so that name becomes easy to remember. It is more than sticking a logo on a box. The colours, the shape of the packet, even the way the company talks — that can all be branding. You hear this word in business class and in offices; it sounds like work talk, not kitchen talk. Though actually, the older picture behind the word is burning a mark into an animal’s skin so everyone knew whose animal it was. Companies still want a mark that says “this is ours,” just without the fire.
