    A bradawl is a small hand tool with a handle and a short, sharp point. You push it into wood to make a small hole — the kind of starter hole you need before you put in a screw or a thin nail, so the wood does not split. It has no motor. It is not a drill and it is not a screwdriver. A carpenter, or anyone putting up a shelf, might keep one in a toolbox.
