Bluejacking is the prank of sending a text to a phone near you through Bluetooth, without saying who you are. The other person just sees a message appear. People did this as a joke, to surprise someone on a train, in a shop, or in a waiting room. It is not the same as hacking: you are not breaking into the phone or stealing anything; you are only pushing a short, uninvited note across a short wireless link. The name mixes Bluetooth with hijacking — as if you were briefly taking over a stranger’s screen. The word had a moment in the 2000s and then . You may still see it in older articles. Informal and technical. There is also a verb: to bluejack someone.
