noun · B2
An older British name for a roller coaster: a small railway at a fair, with steep slopes and sharp bends, built to give people an exciting ride.
Start with dipper: a long-handled spoon for scooping water. Seven bright stars in the northern sky fall into exactly that shape, four for the bowl and three for the handle, and English calls them the Big Dipper. The word takes the other half of the family: not the spoon shape, but the dip - a car climbing to the top and then dropping away. Same two words, one for the sky and one for the seaside, and the capital letters are what tell them apart.
