    A beanpole is a very tall, thin person. People say it as a picture-joke: a bean plant is grown up a long thin pole, so the person is being compared to that stick. Informal, usually teasing, sometimes fond among friends. It comments on shape, not on strength or character. Though actually it can sting if you say it to someone who is already shy about being tall and thin, so it is kinder in stories than as a greeting. Not a polite description in a formal setting.
