restroom (US) · noun · A1
A room with a toilet, especially in American English.
The word is built the plain way: bath + room, the room where the bath is. Picture the door you close behind you at home — inside are the bath or shower, a basin to wash your hands, a mirror, and the toilet, all in the same small space. Because in most homes those things share one room, the name of the room can point to any of them. That is the whole reason this one word can mean 'the room where I shower' and 'the room where I need to go right now'.
