Bashfully tells you how someone does a thing when they feel easily in that moment. You smile bashfully, look down bashfully, say thank you bashfully — the action carries that shy, feeling. It does not add a new meaning to bashful; it only turns the describing word into a word about manner. Like bashful, it sounds a little soft and a little old-fashioned, and a careful speaker uses it kindly, not to laugh at the person.
