An astronomer is a scientist who studies the stars, planets, moons, galaxies, and other things in space. They use telescopes, maths, and physics. They do not tell you your future from your birth date — that is an . The two words sit close in the dictionary and share the astro- piece, so mix them up all the time; though actually, the jobs pulled apart a long time ago. An astronomer may work at a university, at a building with a big telescope, or at a space agency. The word is ordinary school-and-news English.
