Assiduity is a rather old, noun for the habit of sticking at something carefully until it is done properly. You show assiduity when you check every line, come back tomorrow, and do not wave the job away as “good enough.” Though actually, almost nobody says this word out loud any more — you will meet it in old novels, a grand school report, or a slightly teasing remark about how hard someone works. People now say “hard work,” “care,” or “sticking with it.” It names the quality, not one busy afternoon, and it is more “careful and complete” than merely “a lot of hours.”
