If something is around-the-clock, it does not stop for night or for sleep. Hospitals, police, some factories, and news desks work this way: at every hour, someone is still there. You can also write round-the-clock; it is the same idea. Picture the hands of a clock going all the way around, then around again — the work follows those hours. It sounds a little like a news headline. In ordinary speech people often say '24 hours a day' or 'all day and all night' instead. As an adjective it is usually (around-the-clock care); without it still works as a phrase (they work around the clock).
這個字指全天候、二十四小時不停，不會因為晚上或睡覺而停下來。醫院、警局、一些工廠和新聞編輯台都是這樣運作，任何時段都有人在。想像時鐘的指針一圈又一圈地轉，工作也跟著這些時數走，所以它聽起來有點像新聞標題。也可以寫成「round-the-clock」，意思相同。
