1. 1

An armlock is a hold in wrestling and similar fighting sports. One person takes the other person's arm, bends or twists it, and holds it so the arm cannot move. If the other person struggles, it hurts the joint — that is the point: they must stop, or they get hurt. You hear the word in wrestling, , and mixed fighting, not for an ordinary grab or a hug. It can also be a verb: to armlock someone means to put them in that hold. It is a technical sport word, used by people who train or commentate, not a general word for “holding an arm.”
