    An apologia is a statement — often long, careful, and written — in which you defend an idea, a person, or an organization you believe in. It is not the everyday word apology. An apology is “I’m sorry”; an apologia is “here is why this is right, or why I still stand with it.” You meet it in books, essays, and serious talk about , religion, or art, not at the dinner table, and it can sound a little learned. Though actually, people sometimes use it with a raised : calling a speech an apologia can hint that the speaker is making excuses, not only explaining.
