    Anti-fungal describes medicines that kill fungi, or stop them growing — the living things that cause infections such as athlete’s foot, , and thrush. Creams, powders, and pills can all be anti-fungal. A doctor might give you an anti-fungal cream for between the toes, or a tablet if the infection is in the mouth or elsewhere in the body. It is a medical word, but you will also see it on boxes at the pharmacy. It is not for bacteria (that is an antibiotic) and not for viruses. You may also see it written antifungal, without the ; the meaning is the same.
