Anthropoid is a formal science word for an animal that looks a lot like a human. Apes — , gorillas, orangutans — are the usual examples: flatter faces, bigger brains, hands that can hold things, and (for the apes) no tail. You can say “anthropoid apes,” or “an anthropoid” for the animal itself. Though actually, in older scientific talk the group called anthropoids is wider than “apes”: it takes in monkeys, apes, and humans together, as against animals like . In ordinary English people mostly mean “ape-like.” You will not hear this at the dinner table. “Humanoid” is the more common word now if you mean a robot or a figure given a human shape. Used about a person, it is not kind — it can sound as if you are calling them ape-like.
