Something humanoid has a person's shape, and some of the same features — a head, a face, two arms, two legs, a way of standing or walking that makes you think of people. We use it most for robots and for beings in films and stories (aliens, monsters) that look almost human but are not. You can put it in front of a noun (a humanoid robot) or use it as the name of the being (a humanoid walked in). Though actually, looking human-shaped is enough; it does not have to think or feel as we do. A shop dummy is humanoid in shape, but nobody would call it that — the word is for things that seem a bit alive, or that we built to copy us. Scientists, game makers, and film people use it a lot; in everyday talk it comes up when the robot or creature is the point.
