An anglophobe is a person who strongly dislikes England, English people, or English things. It is sharper than “does not care for Britain.” Essays, history books, and newspapers use it; in ordinary talk people more often say someone is anti-British, or “has a thing against the English.” Because the word can sound like an accusation, careful speakers use it when the dislike is real and settled, not when someone merely prefers another country, another accent, or another cup of coffee. It pairs with anglophile the way a scowling twin pairs with a smiling one. The feeling itself is anglophobia; this word is the person.
