An anglophile is someone who loves England — or, more loosely, Britain — and English things: the language, the tea, the books, the dry jokes, the countryside, sometimes the royal family. The usual picture is a person from outside looking in with fondness, which is why books say “someone who is not English.” That is the typical case. You would not usually call an English person an anglophile just for liking home, though people stretch it as a joke. It can also be an adjective: an anglophile reader, anglophile taste. It is a slightly word, not rude, often said with a small smile. Newspapers and essays use it more than everyday chat, where someone might just say they are “crazy about Britain.”
