1. 1

An Amerasian is a person from Asia who has one American parent and one Asian parent. English speakers first used the word a lot for children born in Asian countries, often when a US soldier was the American parent. It is not the same as Asian American. An Asian American is an American whose family is from Asia; an Amerasian is mixed, and the word points to Asia as the place they come from. Some people still use it in a quiet, factual way. Some families would rather name both sides more carefully, because the word carries a history of war and of children who were not always welcomed.
