    You use all-round when a person — or sometimes a thing — is good in many different ways, not just one. An all-round student is not only strong in maths, but in sport, music, talking with people: the whole picture. It is mainly British; American English prefers all-around, with the same idea. People also put it in front of a skill or a quality: all-round ability, all-round fitness. It feels everyday, not fancy, and it almost always sits before a noun. Though actually, the older meaning was closer to “everywhere, on every side,” and that still lives in the two-word phrase all round (“drinks all round”). The all-round here is the later sense: versatile, good at many things.

    all-round 用來形容人，有時也形容事物，在很多方面都很好，不只擅長一項。像「an all-round student」不只數學好，運動、音樂、與人相處也好。它常放在某項能力或品質前面，寫成「all-round ＿＿」，例如 all-round ability（全方位的能力）、all-round fitness（全身性的體能）。這個字幾乎都放在名詞前面，語氣平實，不花俏。
