    All-around, especially in American English, describes someone who is good at many different things, not only one — above all in sport. An all-around athlete can run, jump, and throw, rather than doing just one event. You can also praise an all-around student, or say someone is an all-around good person, meaning good in many ways, not a specialist in one virtue. British English more often says all-round for the same idea. As an adverb, all-around can mean “in every way” or “on every side” (an all-around better choice; trees all-around the house). Write it with a when it sits before a noun: an all-around player. It does not mean “everyone around you.”
