    Akron is a city in the northeast of the American state of Ohio. It is not a capital and not a huge famous city like New York; students mainly meet the name because of factories. For many years Akron was a centre of the rubber and tyre business — the round black things on cars and trucks. Two very big tyre companies, and Firestone, both started there, and people used to call it the Rubber Capital of the World. Though actually the old factories are not as mighty as they once were, so the city has had to find other kinds of work. In English the name is spoken ACK-ron, not like “acre on.”
