    At a later time, after something that has already happened or been mentioned.

    afterwards 指「前面提到的那件事發生完之後」，通常放句尾或句首，講過去的事最常用。它跟 later 很像，但 afterwards 一定是接在「剛剛講到的某件事」後面，not 憑空的一個時間點。美式英文常拼成 afterward（不加 s）。

Picture a line of time. Something happens at one point, then your finger slides a little further along the line. 'Afterwards' marks that later stretch. It never says how much later — an hour, a year — only that it comes after the thing you just mentioned.
