    If someone is affianced, they have promised to marry — they are engaged. You may see his affianced bride in old novels, formal notices, and ceremonial prose. Though actually, almost nobody says this at the table now. Younger people say engaged, or they use fiancé and fiancée. Affianced is not wrong; it is just no longer how people talk about a couple who have agreed to marry. It carries a dusty, official warmth, the voice of a wedding announcement rather than a text message.
