    Someone affectionate shows love and care in a gentle, open way — a hug, a kind nickname, a hand on your arm, a warm note left on the table. Parents are affectionate with small children; couples can be affectionate in public or in private; people also call a cat affectionate if it likes to sit on you. The word is about warmth you can see, not about passion only, and not about being easy to talk to (that is ). An affectionate person may be quite shy in a meeting and still full of soft care at home. There is a rare verb to affectionate, but almost always need this adjective. It is the opposite mood from : here the feeling is meant to be real.
