1. 1

An adulteress is a married woman who has sex with a man who is not her husband. The word is old, sharp, and rather moralising: you meet it in the Bible, in old laws, and in older novels more than in ordinary talk. Today a newspaper would more often say she had an affair, or she committed adultery. There is a matching word for a man, adulterer, though actually English used to mark the woman with this special -ess form more readily than it marked the man. It is not a kind word, and you do not need it for daily conversation.

    姦婦(書面、舊);口語多說「有外遇的已婚女人」
