Acupressure is a body treatment: someone presses, with thumbs or hands, on chosen points on your body to ease pain or help you feel better. The points belong to the same family used in Chinese medicine, but there are no needles. A therapist may press your shoulders, hands, or feet and hold a point until the tightness changes. You meet the word in clinics, spas, and health shops. Though actually, shops sometimes sell “acupressure” for a quick rub that is really just massage; the tidy idea is “press the right point,” but in real life the word gets stretched. It is ordinary health talk, not slang, and not a hospital-only word. It is also not : if needles go in, that is the other treatment. In Taiwan the everyday name is 指壓 — that is the word people will recognise, including on shop signs.
