ABBA is a Swedish pop group of two women and two men. After they won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with Waterloo, they became one of the biggest groups of the 1970s. People still know Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes It All. The stage show Mamma Mia! and the 2008 film of the same name were built from their songs, so even students who have never bought an ABBA record have usually heard them at a wedding or in a shop. The name is usually written ABBA in capital letters. It is a group name, not a common English word, and not a kind of music by itself — it is these four people and their songs.
組成The name is made from the first letters of the four members’ first names: Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni-Frid. (Church English also has abba meaning “father”; that is a different word with the same letters, not this group.)
