    The A-list is the small top group of famous people — the film stars, singers, and faces that magazines put on the cover and that a party wants in the room. You hear it most about film, TV, and pop music, from newspapers, gossip shows, and people talking about fame. It also sits in front of another noun: an A-list actor, an A-list wedding. Though actually, nobody prints a real official list. Magazines and talk as if there is one, and everyone argues about who belongs. Below it, people joke about the B-list and the C-list: still known, just not the first names you think of. In careful talk it is about fame and pulling power, not about whether someone is kind or even good at the job. Informal in tone; fine in news and gossip, a bit glossy for a school essay.

組成A (“rank, normally the highest, on a scale that assigns letters”) + list. The adjective is the noun used in front of another noun.
