B-list describes famous people who are known and popular, but not at the very top. A-list stars are the ones almost everyone can name; B-list stars are the next group down — you might know their face, they work a lot, they get magazines sometimes, but they are not on every poster. People use it about film actors, singers, and TV names, and they now stretch it to anything second-best: a B-list restaurant, a B-list guest. It can sound a little unkind, as if you are ranking a person. Though actually, B-list is not the same as “a failure”; it still means fairly famous. In very casual talk, some speakers also say B-lister for the person.
