Zoologically is the adverb form. It means 'from the point of view of zoology' — that is, judged by the science of animals rather than by everyday habit or by law or by feeling. Its main job is to fence off a claim. A speaker uses it to say: I am talking only about the science here, and I know that ordinary language says something different. 'Zoologically speaking, a whale is not a fish.' Everyday English happily calls a whale a fish-like sea creature; the scientist steps in and marks the boundary. You will see the same move with 'a tomato is botanically a fruit'. You will nearly always meet it in one of two shapes: 'zoologically speaking, …' at the front of a sentence, or right before an adjective — 'zoologically interesting', 'zoologically distinct', 'zoologically accurate'. This is a rare and quite formal word, at home in science writing, museum texts and documentaries. In normal conversation people just say 'scientifically' or 'in terms of biology'. It is worth knowing because you will meet it in reading, not because you will need it in speech. Pronunciation: zo-o-LOJ-i-cal-ly, with the stress in the middle and the first two o's said separately.
