In American English, a person whose job is looking after horses and driving cattle — a cowboy. On a ranch, the wrangler is often the one who takes care of the horses in particular: catching them, saddling them, keeping the herd together. On a dude ranch, where tourists come to ride, the wrangler is the one who leads the guests out. The word is very American and very Western, and you meet it in films, in country songs and in ranch jobs today. It comes from the verb wrangle, which first meant to argue noisily and then came to mean to round up and control animals — so a wrangler is someone who handles animals that do not want to be handled. That has spread by joke into other jobs: on a film set the person who looks after the animals is the dog wrangler or snake wrangler, and people now say things like "data wrangler" or "I was wrangling toddlers all afternoon" for any job of keeping unruly things in order. Note also that Wrangler is a famous jeans brand, named for exactly this cowboy meaning, and Jeep sells a car called a Wrangler — so in Taiwan students often meet the brand before the job.
組成wrangle (to round up and manage animals; originally to argue) + -er (a person who does it). The -er ending goes back through Old English to a Latin ending -arius, the same "person who does this" ending you see in baker and farmer.
