World-famous means known by people all over the world, not only in one country. A world-famous singer is one whose name people recognise in , in Lagos, and in Lima. It says nothing about being good — it is about how far the name has travelled. Someone can be world-famous for a crime, or for one strange video.
It normally sits in front of a noun: a world-famous painting, the world-famous night market. You can also use it after be — "He is world-famous" — and that is fine, though slightly less common.
Here is where students get pulled in: the word is popular in tourism and menus. Small restaurants advertise their "world-famous" beef ; a town calls its little festival world-famous. Everyone knows this is friendly , and in a serious essay it can make you sound like a poster. If you actually mean "very well known here", say famous, well known, or famous throughout Taiwan. Save world-famous for names that truly cross borders.
