- 1n/ˈwɪski/
a strong alcoholic drink made from grain such as or corn; also a glass or serving of this drink.
講這種酒本身的時候不可數(whisky is made from barley、a bottle of whisky),但在店裡點來喝的一杯是可數的:a whisky 就是「一杯威士忌」,兩杯是 two whiskies。

From the word’s history
Variant of usque, short for usquebaugh, from Scottish Gaelic uisge-beatha 'water of life', a calque of Medieval Latin aqua vitae.
You can picture whisky as grain turned into fire: or corn is fermented and then distilled, so what is left in the glass is much stronger than beer. The same word covers both the liquid in general and one glass of it — you can buy whisky, or order a whisky.
