A wheelie is the trick where a rider lifts the front wheel of a bicycle or off the ground and rides along balancing on the back wheel alone. The normal way to say it is with the verb do: do a wheelie, pull a wheelie. You can also just use wheelie as a verb — "He wheelied all the way down the street" — but that is less common and sounds like something a rider would say to another rider. It is an informal, playful word from children, and bike culture, and it is countable: one wheelie, two wheelies. Be careful, because British English also has wheelie in a completely different job: a wheelie bin is a big rubbish bin on wheels that you pull out to the street on collection day. There the word is an adjective sitting in front of bin, and it has nothing to do with the trick. Context tells you which is which — a boy does a wheelie; the council a wheelie bin.
組成wheel（輪子）+ -ie。The ending -ie makes short, friendly, casual nouns in English — the same ending in movie, selfie, and the affectionate names people give things. So wheelie is roughly "the wheel thing", said the way children and riders would say it.

- Downshift while the engine is still revving well. This will prevent missed gears when you stomp the shift lever in a panic to regain power. Also, if you wait too long to shift down, you risk the possibility of wheelieing when you catch the next lower cog. A wheelie will cause you to shut off for a second … and it's all over brother. Go back down and try again.
- The other possible problem with uphill, downhill and crested roads is that bikes tend to wheelie over them. This isn't really a problem unless you have to make a turn while the front wheel is still in the air. The rear brake will help to keep the front down.
