Born into a rich or important family — usually an old family with a title, land, or a famous name. This is not a word for everyday modern English. It belongs to novels, history books, and older writing, and it comes from a world where the family you were born into decided your whole life. When you do meet it today, it is often said with a raised : calling someone well-born now can suggest they got their advantages for free rather than earning them. So it can be a compliment in a Jane Austen novel and a quiet criticism in a newspaper column, and only the surrounding sentence tells you which. In ordinary speech people say 'from a wealthy family', 'from a good family', or 'privileged' instead. Note that 'well-born' is about birth alone — it says nothing about how much money the person has now, or whether they are kind, clever, or . A well-born family can be poor; that gap between name and money is a whole genre of English fiction.

組成well（好好地）+ born（出生的）。字面就是「出生得好」——在英文的老觀念裡，「好」指的不是健康，而是家世。
