WBC stands for the World Boxing Council. Like the WBA, it is one of the four big organizations that control professional boxing — it ranks fighters, sanctions title fights, and gives out its own belt. It was formed in 1963, when a group of countries broke away because they felt the WBA was too American, and it is based in Mexico City.
