A thin flying insect with black and yellow stripes that can sting you. Wasps look a little like bees, but they are thinner and smoother, and they do not make honey.

You can picture a wasp as a bee's sharper, leaner cousin: the same black-and-yellow warning colours, but the body is narrow, smooth and hard, in at the waist, and it carries a sting it can use again and again. Nothing sweet comes from it — no honey, no fuzzy pollen-dusted coat. Just the bright stripes that say 'keep away'.
