Warmed-up describes a body that is ready: you have done your gentle exercises — jogging, stretching, swinging your arms — so your muscles are loose and safe to work hard. It is used with 'be' or 'get': 'Are you warmed up?', 'I'm not properly warmed up yet', 'Give me five minutes to get warmed up.' Written before a noun it takes the hyphen ('warmed-up muscles'), but most of the time it comes after the verb and needs no hyphen at all. Two other lives of this word are worth knowing, because you will meet them. Food: warmed-up rice, warmed-up soup — food heated again from yesterday. And from that comes an insult for ideas: 'warmed-up ideas', 'a warmed-up version of last year's plan' means old stuff served again, pretending to be new. Same picture, different target. There is also the singer's sense — 'my voice isn't warmed up yet' — and the audience sense, where a comedian warms up the crowd before the main show.
