A vodcast is a podcast with pictures — a video programme, usually one of a regular series, that you download or stream from the Internet and watch when you want. The word can also be used as a verb: to vodcast is to put out such a programme. It was made by taking 'podcast' and putting 'v' for video on the front. Around 2005-2010, when podcasts were still new and mostly audio-only, people needed a word for the video kind, and 'vodcast' (also spelled 'vidcast') was one of the words they tried. Here is the honest part, and your dictionary may not tell you: this word never really won. Today almost everyone just says 'podcast' even when there is video — most big podcasts now film themselves and put the video on YouTube, and nobody calls those vodcasts. So you will meet 'vodcast' in a dictionary, in a slightly older article, or on a university website about recorded lectures, but you will rarely hear a native speaker say it in 2026. It is a useful word to recognise, and a slightly dated word to use.
