Versification is the way a poem is built: its rhythm, its line lengths, the pattern of stressed and sounds, and how the rhymes are arranged. When a critic talks about a poet's versification, they mean the machinery under the poem — not what it says, but how it is put together in sound. The word can also mean the act of turning something into verse: a versification of an old story is that story rewritten as a poem. This is an academic word. You will meet it in literature classes, essays and textbooks, and almost nowhere else; in ordinary talk people say 'the rhythm' or 'the form'. It is uncountable most of the time ('his versification is loose'), though you may see 'a versification of…' when it means one particular . Note that it covers a whole system, not one feature — if you only mean the beat, say 'metre'; if you only mean the rhyme pattern, say 'rhyme scheme'. 'Versification' is the umbrella over all of it.
