A vendetta is a long, bitter feud between two people, families, or groups — one where each side keeps trying to get back at the other, sometimes for years or even generations. It started out meaning a real blood feud in Italy, where families took violent revenge on each other, but in everyday English today it's usually softer: 'she has a vendetta against her old boss' just means she holds a strong, lasting grudge and keeps trying to get back at him.
