A veejay is the person who introduces music videos on a TV channel — the one who talks between the videos, says what is coming next, and interviews the singers. The job belongs to a particular time: MTV and channels like it, big in the 1980s and 1990s, when watching music videos on television was how young people found new music. Because that era has largely passed, the word now sounds a little dated, and you will most often meet it in writing about that period. It is informal, and it is usually written VJ these days, which is quicker; 'veejay' is just the spelling that follows the sound. It can also be a verb — to veejay is to do that job. In some places, especially in clubs, a VJ can also mean the person who mixes video images live while a DJ mixes the music, which is a different job with the same name.
