User-friendly describes a thing that is easy for an ordinary person to use — the buttons are where you expect, the words make sense, and you do not need to read a manual or ask an expert. It began as a computer word in the late 1970s and is still used mostly about software, apps, websites, phones and machines: "a user-friendly website", "the app isn't very user-friendly". But people now stretch it well past machines, to anything a normal person has to get through: a user-friendly form, a user-friendly , a user-friendly airport. You can put it before a noun ("a user-friendly design") or after be ("this is very user-friendly"). It takes more and most, not -er and -est: more user-friendly, most user-friendly. The pattern behind it has become a little factory in English — people build new words the same way whenever they want to say "kind to X": eco-friendly, family-friendly, budget-friendly, beginner-friendly. A gentle warning: because companies love this word in advertising, it is often a claim rather than a fact.
