'Urbanely' is the adverb of 'urbane'. It tells you the WAY someone does something: in a smooth, calm, socially confident way. If a man answers urbanely, he answers without getting flustered, in a pleasant, easy, slightly polished manner. If a woman smiles urbanely, her smile is the practised, comfortable smile of someone who is used to rooms full of people. It sits next to verbs of speaking and social behaviour — say, reply, answer, remark, smile, greet, chat, wave. Two honest notes. First, it is rare: much rarer than 'urbane' itself. Writers usually prefer 'smoothly', 'calmly', 'pleasantly', or they just use the adjective ('he was urbane about it'). Second, because it is rare and formal, it often carries a small dry edge — the writer is watching the person perform, and lets you feel that the smoothness is a performance. You should recognise it when you read it; you do not need to reach for it when you write.
