An uprising is when ordinary people in a place suddenly rise up together and use force to try to change the government or the law. The key features are: it comes from below, from the people rather than the army or the powerful; it is usually sudden; and it usually involves violence or at least the real threat of it. Size matters for word choice. An uprising is bigger than a protest and bigger than a riot, but often smaller and shorter than a revolution — a revolution succeeds and changes everything, while an uprising may be crushed in a week and still be called an uprising. That is why history books are full of failed uprisings. Notice too that the word carries a quiet sympathy. Governments call the same event a rebellion, a revolt, or 'unrest'; the people who support it call it an uprising. So the word you choose tells your reader whose side you are on. You will see it with a place or a year in front: the Warsaw Uprising, the 1953 uprising, a popular uprising, an armed uprising, to crush an uprising, to stage an uprising.
組成uprise + -ing. Uprise is an old verb meaning 'to rise up', and the -ing turns it into a noun for the event. So the whole word is literally 'a rising-up' — which is exactly what it means, and the picture of people standing up out of their seats is a good one to keep.
