Describes a person's attitude, faith, loyalty, obedience or trust when they accept something completely and never ask whether it is right. The word points inward, at the believer, not at the thing believed: unquestioning obedience, unquestioning loyalty, unquestioning faith, unquestioning support. Here is the honest part, and it is the part learners usually miss. The word sits slightly on the critical side. Even when the sentence looks like praise — 'he gave the company his unquestioning loyalty' — there is often a shadow in it, a suggestion that this person handed over their own judgement. Writers use it about soldiers following orders, about followers of a strong leader, about children trusting adults. When someone genuinely wants to praise loyalty, they more often say 'complete' or 'total' or 'fierce'. Not always, though — 'unquestioning' can be quite tender about a child's or a dog's trust, where nobody expects judgement in the first place. It has only one form of use: it goes in front of a noun. You do not say 'his loyalty was unquestioning' very often; the natural sentence is 'his unquestioning loyalty'.
